A message from upstairs....

(well in my case, downstairs)

The note is from the publisher of The Morning Journal. It was posted next to today's front page in the newsroom. Every day our front page is posted on a push-pin board with our competitor's front page (The Chronicle) as a comparison of how we are doing.

I was told by a reporter that notes like that don't appear too often. Obviously, I did something right.

As I looked at both pictures carefully, they were taken about roughly the same time. In this case, its all about perspective, angles, and being in the right place at the right time.

Congratulations Annie! I'm so proud of you! Of course your editor,Jeff, was right about you having the better picture...no doubt about it! No contest. You captured the faces of 3 out of the 4 people in that picture...and not just their faces...but the emotions they were feeling. The firemen had expressions of caring, reassurance and empathy for that child...and the boy, although not happy at having been through a scary situation,
had a look of calm and a trusting look for the firemen that came to rescue him. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

Congrats on a job well done! Your picture was definitely better, and it's always nice to know that people are noticing. This is Lisa Warner, by the way. I really like your blog. Your pictures are fantastic. :)

Great job!!

You did extremely well and were in the right place at the right time--and WAY to blow the competition out of the water! lol

This job was a really good choice--it seems to offer a nice balance between hard news, features, and interest in multimedia with your videos. :)
