Steelhead Trout Stocking

Students from South Street Elementary School watch in excitement as DAvid Insley, Hatchery Superintendent at the Castalia State Fish Hatchery, controls a hose launching 55,000 steelhead trout into the Vermilion River yesterday at the Vermilion City Boat Launch. These fish were raised in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife's Castalia Fish Hatchery. The yearlings are six to eight inches when they are stocker, and will grow to 18 inches by the end of their first year in the wild.
