Freezin' for a Reason

I got to go to Cedar Point yesterday for the Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge. It was weird driving around the perimeter park, but also in the winter when no one was there. It has been about 12 years since I'd been there, but I had never been by the hotel or on the beach. The air temperature around the time of the plunge was a "balmy 41 degrees" and the temperature of Lake Erie was about 31 degrees. Because of the windy conditions, ice formed along the shore so it had to be broken up before the plungers could tackle the frigid water. They couldn't run into the water, but had to more wade and walk through so they would not get cut by the ice. Despite the conditions, many people decided to go all the way under. More power to them! I was freezing in my winter jacket and gloves while trying not to get knocked down by the wind. But I still got some stills AND video. Chaos for sure, but I got the job done.
